The Two Lives of Asa Carter

Former Klansman Asa Carter was a segregationist
speechwriter for Alabama Governor George Wallace. He most infamously penned the words ”segregation now, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever“ delivered by Wallace during his 1963 inaugural address.

Forrest Carter was a Cherokee novelist who grew up in Tennessee. His autobiography, The Education of Little Tree, is a beloved classic that has sold millions of copies worldwide. The two men could not have been more different, except they weren’t.
